VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Mentor Youth in the Community

A mentor is a caring, adult friend who devotes time to a young person. Although mentors can fill any number of different roles, all mentors have the same goal in common: to help young people achieve their potential and discover their strengths.

A mentor echoes the positive values and cultural heritage parents and guardians are teaching. A mentor is part of a team of caring adults.

A mentor's main purpose is to help a young person define individual goals and find ways to achieve them.

By sharing fun activities and exposing a youth to new experiences, a mentor encourages positive choices, promotes high self-esteem, supports academic achievement, and introduces the young person to new ideas.

Chaperone Youth Events

The City of Dayton Commission on youth will often sponsor or support various activities and events around the community for youth.

Adult chaperones are needed to help facilitate the event as well as assist in directing students to and from the event safely.

We are always looking for responsible adults who would like to get involved in the fun and rewarding programs that are planned for our young people.

To be effective as a chaperone it is important to establish an appropriate rapport. Greet students as they enter the events and make sure throughout the function that the atmosphere is safe and that students are following the rules.

Chaperones serve as both supervisors and adult role models. As such chaperones should maintain professional conduct and model behavioral expectations for all students.

More volunteer opportunities will be added as the Commission on Youth develops more programs and builds stronger relationships with the organizations and business of the Dayton community.  Please check back with us for future volunteer opportunity additions.
